Determine the wavelength of a tone using resonance.
You can then easily calculate the speed of the sound in air.
This resonance device consists of a resonance tube with a related scale and a level vessel. Fill the system with water, then strike the tuning fork supplied and hold it over the tube. Determine the wavelength of the tone by changing the water level in the tube and noting the levels at which the sound is amplified. You can try using a different tuning fork, or use a loudspeaker connected to a tone generator in order to examine other frequencies. The product of the frequency and wavelength gives you the speed of the sound.
Contents: Stand with scale, resonance tube, level vessel, hose and tuning fork.
