Determine the e/m ratio with a fully integrated system consisting of Helmholtz coils, electron beam tubes and power supply.
The mass-to-charge ratio of an electron is physically interesting and also of historical significance. When electrons are pushed into a magnetic field, they are deflected in a central movement. Calculating the radius of the electron pass and the size of the magnetic field allows us to determine the e/m ratio.
The risk of incorrect connection is eliminated with this fully integrated, easy-to-use system. The system is suitable for demonstrations and student experiments.
Tip: You can calculate the mass of the electron by also performing Millikan’s oil drop experiment, which determines the charge of the electron.
