With the microphones, a timer and a clap of your hands, the speed of sound in air can be determined easily.
Connect the main unit to a timer (suggested art. no: 60324), or other equipment that can read off an electrical impulse. Place the two units at least one meter apart and make a sharp sound in line with the units' microphones.
When the sound reaches the first microphone, the timer starts and when it reaches the second microphone, the timing stops. The timer then gives the time it takes for the sound to travel between the two microphones and the speed of the sound can be determined. Feel free to perform a series of measurements with the units at different distances from each other and then, for example, use a graph to determine the speed.
