The flashing light makes the waves "stand still".
Fill the tank with water, fit one of the wave generators in the vibrator and start the wave motion device. The frequency and amplitude of the vibrator are adjusted using the remote control. The light from the lamp over the tank shines through the waves, is reflected in the large, oblique mirror under the tank and is projected onto the front of the wave motion device.
You can also allow the lamp to flash in line with the frequency of the vibrator, which makes the waves look like they are standing still.
