Product description

An interesting demonstration that visualises the force of gravity and, for example, a comet's orbit past a celestial body.

A large canvas of stretchy material is stretched on a round stand. The heavier the ball that is placed on the canvas, the larger the hollow and, thus, the "attractive force" it has on nearby balls. With a heavy ball in the middle, you can see how small balls are held in an orbit as well as the fact that the speed increases as the radius of the orbit decreases. A comet's elliptical orbit past a celestial body can be easily visualised.
Put two weights on the canvas, the Earth and the Moon. Then, show that a small ball, with the right speed and direction, can leave the Earth, go round the Moon and return.
After the demonstration, the fabric can be folded up and the stand disassembled – easy to store.

Plastic stand with canvas in stretch material, Ø 180 cm, height 80 cm.
1 metal ball Ø 73 mm, 750 g.
